2025 Week 10
You won't hear often what I'm about to tell you, but still should be shared. Last month I made a decision to leave Amazon after a month there. Reason mostly being that there are ways I wanted to grow personally for which I think Amazon can't provide that opportunity at this time.
I know for some people who have dreamt of working in Big Tech, this would be a bit shocking. I also understand that not everyone will have this opportunity and many will trade places to have it. Ultimately, it's all about what is good for you at any given time, so for me this was it.
So what's next for me? Well, I joined Contentful this week, this time as a Backend Engineer and as usual, been spending a bulk of the time onboarding. I can say there are good indicators for the opportunity to grow the way I want but of course there's work to be done. So, as I progress on this new journey, I'll try to share more.
I did stress myself a little more than expected though since my onboarding was in the office here in Berlin. I had to ride my bike to and from the office for two days. This is after a hour at Gym on those days. Eventually, I will be adjusting my Gym schedule a bit to accommodate this, since I might be in the office twice a week. I abhor stress and if I don't make some changes in my routines, going to the office with bike after workout will lead to that.
I've been going to the gym for a couple of months now to build a routine for fitness. Little did I know of the little surprises that pop up in the Gym during workouts. This time, it was a sudden, painful, excruciating headache. I was completely ignorant of this type of headache and haven't experienced an headache develop that fast before.
I wouldn't blame myself since the whole idea of doing workouts like lifting weights is completely new to me, so, there's a lot I still don't know about potential dangers that might arise.
I had initially experience this headache the second gym day of the week but it quickly fizzled out after relaxing for like 10 minutes and I was able to complete my rounds for the day. I had thought to myself this was just a temporary thing, but the bad thing was that I didn't seek to understand what had just happened to me.
Unfortunately, on the third workout day, I got hit by this headache in the second set of my first workout and this time, it got me pretty bad and couldn't workout again. I had to leave the gym in pain.
At this point it was obvious I need to know more on why this might be happening only to see that it's a common exertion headache that is experienced by many during workouts.
While, I've read / watched a lot of information on what I can improve in my workout style to reduce the changes of this happening during my workouts, I will still be seeing a doctor to ensure this isn't more than what it actually is. In addition, I will also be taking the week off from working out or just doing light exercises that doesn't exert too much pressure on my neck/head muscles.
I've always been very proactive to investigate when I observe irregular things in my body, but this time I dropped the bar on that and paid the price with more pain. If I had inquired at the first encounter, I might have been able to prevent the second occurrence. So, I'll take away this lesson.
Till next time,
Bosun.
